Moodle Assignment for students

Faculty may use the Assignment activity to collect written work or other files.

Saving your assignment

Many professors request that assignments are submitted in a specific format, most commonly Word (.docx) or PDF (.pdf).

If you compose your writing in Google Docs, you can save your assignment in the format requested by your professor.

  • select File
  • select Download
  • choose the format requested by your professor. The download will begin.

  • Usually, you will find your file in the Downloads folder on your computer. Make sure you know where the file is saved. You may want to move the file to your desktop to be able to easily upload it to Moodle.

Uploading and submitting your assignment

  • Access the Assignment activity in Moodle.
  • When you are ready, click on the Add submission button.

  • Use the Moodle file picker to upload your assignment. After uploading your assignment, click Save Changes at the bottom of the page to submit it.

  • You can edit your submission up to the point when the assignment is due if necessary.
  • Usually it is possible to submit your assignment late, although it will be marked late in Moodle. Your professor will be able to see exactly when you submitted your assignment.

Seeing graded work

  • You may or may not receive an automated email from Moodle when your professor has added feedback on your assignment.
  • At Reed, many professors do not provide grades in Moodle. However, they often provide written feedback, usually in the form of a file attached to your assignment.
  • To see the feedback from your professor, go back to the Assignment activity. Scroll down to see any written feedback or to access the feedback file returned by your professor. The name may be the same as the file you submitted.

Assignment feedback is provided at the bottom of the Assignment page in Moodle. If your professor has indicated that you have received feedback but you don't see it, be sure you've scrolled as far down on the Assignment page as possible.
